Flamenco History
Origin
Flamenco has it's origins in Spain from the Andalusia province. Andalusia is in southern Spain and its capitol is Seville. There is evidence that flamenco goes back as far as the 1500's with its origins from the various diplaced and persecuted groups from the middle east (including the Moors, Jews, and east Indians).
The Golden Age of Flamenco is from 1869-1910 in Spain where flamenco came out of the subculture and gained prominence. The modern flamenco form with its current art style was popularized in café performances.
This time is also when the 6-string guitar took its prominence over other guitar designs.
Flamenco distinguishes itself from other music forms because dance is incorporated into the art form where musician and dancer follow a rhythm and structure but do not have to be choreographed. Rhythm takes the form of foot stomping, hand clapping, and guitar strumming and tapping.
